Saturday, July 19th - Happy Birthday Celebration!

In the birthplace of the Minneapolis milling industry another first was born:  the first farmers market in the Twin Cities to focus on local, organic and sustainable foods.  Come celebrate the intersection of the city's past and the future of the local foods in the heart of the Mill District.  Visit the Market for breakfast and groceries, take in our birthday-themed cooking demo, then tour the Mill City Museum for a taste of the past!

Mill City Tastes:  Beets!
9am-1pm
(while supplies last), Free sampling of beets.  Join our partners from the UMN Public Health and Nutrition Program for FREE samples of beets, nutrition info and storage and preparation tips.

Kids Art Project and Scavenger Hunt:
9am-1pm
, Join the Mill City Museum (at the Market) to make your own exploding flour mill project and set out on a scavenger hunt to learn about riverfront history!


Cooking Demo:
10:00am, Local baker and cookbook
author Pat Sinclair demonstrates birthday treats made with market ingredients!

Book Signing:
Following the Demo Pat Sinclair will be signing and selling copies of her cookbook, Baking Basics and Beyond.


Live Music:

9am – 11am, McPhail Center for Music early childhood music specialists will be performing music from their cd “Sing with Me”. Dancing and singing along are welcome--be ready to move and have fun! 

Mill City Museum
10am - 5pm

For Kids: Splash in the museum’s water lab, explore the interactive exhibits and nose around in the Bake lab.

See the film, "Minneapolis in 19 Minutes Flat", a whirlwind tour of our fair city, written by and starring local humorist, playwright and radio personality Kevin Kling.  The show plays every 30 minutes and is included in museum admission.
